Lomi Lomi is the traditional massage or sacred ceremonial bodywork of Hawaii, developed over many generations.
The massage is used as a powerful tool for maintaining a healthy way of life. The strokes are long and flowing, using forearms and elbows. The frequent figure 8 movements resemble the symbol for infinity.
“Lomi lomi is the hands on manifestation of Aloha and unconditional love skilfully delivered into the tissues of the receiver”... Nancy Kahalewai.
It is traditionally used at times of major transitions such as birth, puberty, marriage.
Lomi lomi is also used to nurture and support those who are in caring roles to enable them to continue to support others.
I come from a background of social work and counselling where my focus has been working in medical settings and hospice work – also working with Cruse Bereavement Care. Alongside this has been my work as a complementary therapist – supporting professionals at work, working with carers, patients and bereaved relatives.
